I recently received an email from Breyer Horses, and after reading through it I thought I should post it here, seeing as how most of us are rather fond of horses.

Greetings!

Despite the efforts of The Cloud Foundation and many wild horse advocates, the BLM round-up of Cloud's herd has begun in Lovell, Wyoming. Legal efforts are continuing, but have so far not stopped this action. A Temporary Restraining Order request by The Cloud Foundation and Front Range Equine Rescue was denied in Federal District Court on September 2. The BLM has commenced the round-up - expected to take 4-10 days - which is being done by driving the herd into pens via helicopters.

This sad news comes just two months before the third installation of Ginger's series is set to air on PBS. Cloud: Challenge of the Stallions, part of PBS' NATURE Series, is slated to air on October 25. By the time the show airs, at least 70 horses - possibly including Cloud and his band - will have been removed from rangelands that have supported them for more than 200 years.

For me, this a very saddening announcement. This means that over 70 wild horses will be rounded up and adopted out. According to Cloud's site, any horses over the age of 10 can be bought by slaughterhouses. Any younger than that that are NOT adopted will be kept by the area government, eventually to be killed because they do not have the money to feed them

That makes me VERY mad.

I do no fully understand their reasons for rounding up the herds. The horses were alive and thriving as well as they could. They were not getting into ranchers' land or anything, so learning of this really tisses me off.

I (along with many other horse lovers and the horses themselves) would love it if you would sign the petition to stop this.

Just for your amusement, here is my comment:

I, as a horse lover, cannot stand by when horses (or any animal) are in danger. Removing these horses from their land (And just remember, THEY were there FIRST) will not only impact them emotionally, but also physically, seeing as how any horses over 10 years can be bought by slaughterhouses, and ones younger than 10 not adopted will most likely be killed because the government cannot afford to feed them. The reason why they are being removed makes absolutely NO sense to me. The horses were alive and thriving, so WHY bother them? I say, stop this now! I've seen what happens when horses fall into the wrong hands, and with removing and adopting out these wild horses, there will only be more to fall into the wrong hands. Let's just avoid that and leave the horses be!
